Plod....I agree everyone should enjoy the experience. But as a mediocre batter and a pretty part time bowler there is no enjoyment in having a G1 bowler whistling the ball around your chin at a pace you're not equiped to handle or a G1 batter carting you off to all parts.....only the G1 player is enjoying that.
I guess what some folk are tired of is that the big clubs seem to have free reign on what they choose to do in the Grades. How enjoyable has it been for Crescent who were 'promoted' up to G2 because Gordonians decided they wanted to spread their teams out and declined promotion.
What if Cresent had declined and then Methlick and so on and so on.....what a farce. What's the point of playing for points?
Just remember that we all pay our subs as well and have a right to enjoy the games as well. |

Thats completely different, its still a first team competition so they can field first team players if they wish.
When they field second string players they are risking losing the game by fielding potentially weaker players. We are talking about teams who play potentially much stronger players to guarantee winning.
Its not an enjoyable experience, crawling about in bushes looking for the ball every few overs because Grade 1 batsmen can rip apart your Grade 3/4 bowlers for 40 overs then watching Grade 1 bowlers rip through your batting line up. Its demoralising, its pointless, do these Grade 1 players get joy from beating Grade 3/4 teams? I think its an ego thing, these Grade 1 batsmen want to make big scores |

Let me get this straight. In the lower cup competitions any team with more than one XI can parachute a couple (or more) of 'Bosmans' down to the lower level cup competition in order to win a trophy.
And some think that is fair!
So one XI lower league teams will probably NEVER win a cup competition as the multi XI's fire in a few 'guns for hire' who then pump the teams who only use players from that Grade.
Someone said that what would you prefer - that or for the teams with multi XI's to scratch. I don't know if I'm honest. On one hand I love to play my cricket however if you're going out to play against players who are going to murder you with bat and ball and you'll never see in Grade 4 ever then surely that is a mockery of the cup competition itself. Some one XI lower League teams may not want to participate in Cup Competitions if the big boys are going to rip the p*sh out of it.
Scratching may be not the answer but at least there is an honesty about it.
Surely it's wrong that in a League match one week you're up against a team filled with fat blokes (like my good self), pensioners, unfit dudes and youngsters then lo and behold the Sunday cup game and Steve Harmison is running into to bowl at you with Freddie Flintoff, Andrew Strauss, Paul Collingwood et al all in close fielding positions!! (OK I am exaggerating)
As a Grade 4 player maybe I should go back and play for my primary school team in Cup Matches |

A pretty good point there. I've still enjoyed things this season to a certain degree, but it has certainly been nowhere near as enjoyable as last season. Obviously part of that will be down to results but it's also partly a feeling of knowing in quite a few games we are looking to pick up as many points as we can rather than believing we have a real chance of winning.
I also wonder if this has also perhaps played a part in us struggling to get a team out this season too.

How far down will they go to find a team willing to go up? Or would they just cancel relegation? |

Well to cap it all guys, we have a scenario here in the BA Cup final where Cults and Gordos, meet. So.............. going on past history do both teams load up to counter the other or, as has been suggested internally, as in the two teams in the same grade scenario, six player from both clubs are named and not eligible to participate. Just a thought. _________________ And there rests the case......................................................... of fine red wine |

We have a cup game on Sunday and we will field our strongest possible eligible team.
Grade 1 is the top level of the grades and as high as most guys in the North East want to play, that is there choice but it shouldnt mean that guys at our club who want to play higher shouldnt get to play in the Shire cup and prove themselve at that level also.
Most of the boys that will play for us are not as accomplished as the guys we will face nor do they have the experience of the opposition but will be seen as RINGERS in the eyes of some.
We would never load our 4th XI cup team as you can see by our results over the years as it would be pointless but Grade1 is the Top level and deserves the Best team possible.

I don't think there will ever be a way to stop it. Even with registrations and whatever it would still be difficult, time consuming and pointless.
As someone posted on here earlier it is an opportunity for small teams to play against better players. The better players get to boost their averages!! |
